Sugar House Island placemaking
We’re excited to announce that we’ve submitted a planning application for a 'Skysign' on 1 Sugar House Lane.
Sugar House Island is launching with work spaces for creative businesses, and we hope this creative sign will set the tone for the scheme. Part of our placemaking strategy, it is intended to help people find their way to Sugar House Island, particularly from Pudding Mill Lane station. We aim to get it installed ahead of the re-opening of Dane’s Yard Bar & Kitchen, so it will act as a marker for local people looking for somewhere interesting and fun for an evening out too.
The sign, designed by We Like Today, uses the Sugar House Island logo which fuses a historical font with a sharp, modern triangle in the shape of our site, representing how Sugar House Island will fuse old and the new. The sign is a silhouette by day and is lit with low-level, warm LED lights from dusk.
We Like Today are also assisting us on Sugar House Island’s wayfinding strategy which will help visitors navigate their way around the old alleys and yards of Dane’s Yard when we reopen.
The sign will be manufactured and installed by Reade Signs, a family-owned business based in Hampshire which has been running for 36 years.
TIMING AND PROCESS
We hope to have agreement from the LLDC by March.
