River wall signage for Sugar House Island
We asked Lucy, Vastint UK’s Office Manager, to tell us about a project she managed over the summer.
“It’s been really exciting to see my first signage project going up around site.
The project began because the Vastint UK team saw local people stopping on the towpath to discuss progress on the buildings, and more often than not, to debate what they will become. Sugar House Island is a mixed-use scheme and its first buildings are offices for creative businesses along with two bars and a restaurant for everyone to use. This collection of buildings is grouped around old yards and alleyways in a conservation area called Dane's Yard. The first homes (Botanical Mews) are now visible too, so it can get confusing.
The team decided to create a simple frame which sits over the river wall and can carry signage boards. It means we can update messages as the site develops.
I was given the project to manage from concept stage, liaising with the designer, copywriter, placemaker, construction team, engineering consultant and signage manufacturer. Finally, after many discussions, the first seven signs have gone up around the perimeter of site. Some explain what’s already here, and others describe what’s to come.
We hope you like them, let us know what you think!”
