A Lunchtime Run with Katie
Katie, Assistant Accountant for Vastint UK, works at Sugar House Island and has recently taken up running. We ask her to talk us through her journey from couch to 10km, exploring the local area in the process.
Along with some colleagues, I signed up to take part in a 10km charity run. Having not done any real distance running since leaving secondary school, I was a little daunted at the thought of starting training. Fortunately, Sugar House Island is located within a series of interconnected canals which make for ideal running routes – not too busy and no need to cross any roads.
In particular, I like running north up the River Lea towards Hackney Wick and Here East, then looping back around via the Queen Elizabeth Olympic park. There’s always lots to see when running along the canals; wildlife, art, waterside cafes – I find interesting surroundings make the training a little less painful.
I’ve been adding a lunchtime run into my schedule once a week since October, changing the route and distance slightly each time. Its been a great way to keep fit and explore the waterways and local area at the same time.
